I was going to order an ultimate seat for my wing but ordered a Diamond Seat instead. The Diamondd seat was a little cheaper and they make a seat for your height and weight as well as your passengers and it is about $100 cheaper but with no money back guarantee after 15 days, however after 3000 miles they will make adjustments to the seat as needed. I love the way I sit in the seat and it is comfortable however can't say the same for my passenger which doesn't make me as happy. Also the Diamond Seat takes some getting use to as I have to stand on my tip toes when stopped and I'm 6' tall. This would be a great seat for a trike. Also my passenger needs support where the raincover pouch was on the stock seat. Charleston was about 180 miles one way for us but I could have rode longer on this seat and just last year I made the trip on a stock seat and was ready to get off for sure when we got to our destination. While in Charleston we also rode the bridges of Charleston (about an 80 mile trip) and it was great and could have kept riding and it was a very warm day. I always enjoy meeting new friends in the GWRRA and always have a great time. Stay safe out there and hope this post helps someone out.

Riding and the spring

Riding a motorcycle can be fun and dangerous. Always wear a helmet while riding and burn your bright lights during the daytime. I like a lot of lights on a bike because it allows for better visibility. I also like a Goldwing because you can always spot a Goldwing on the road. Another good way to stand out is a white helmet. Most people don't see the Motorcycle but they see the white helmet. I am soon going to order an Ultimate seat for my bike and ride it to Charleston SC shortly afterward. Will let everyone know how that goes as I have a bad back.

WOW How time Flies

I can't believe the last time I posted to this blog was way back in October. A lot has happened since then. A lot of miles have been put on my Goldwing since then. I have been on only 2 long rides however in that time. We went to Charleston, South Carolina back in May and just this past weekend we went to Whitewater Falls in western North Carolina. Both trips were day trips. We also had a relatively short trip to Lexington SC. All this not to mention the various poker runs and other charity events we have partaken in. I rode most all winter and never really got cold thanks to my synergy heated clothing. Now what I really need is for someone to donate me some cooler clothing or make a law for bikers to ride naked!!! However I don't think that riding a motorcycle naked would be the safest thing in the world to do.

Goldwings and Biloxi MS

Well its been a month since we were in Biloxi for the Mississippi state GWRRA rally. We met some great people there from the Memphis Area and from Monroe Louisiana. I rode my first Goldwing trike around the parking lot of the Isle of Capri in Biloxi. Thanks Buddy, now my wife wants one!!! Also would like to mention Ruth, Andy, Guard Rail and Pumpkin Butt as we had a great supper at Applebee's. Well the company was great anyway. We had a fiasco all week long with food establishments in Biloxi. I kept looking for a resturant called Aunt Jenny's but was looking in the wrong place. I thought it was off of hwy 90 but its not. I should have turned at the Buea Rivage instead and went over that bridge and it on the left, not over the bridge on 90. Since I have been back from Biloxi I have been on one large ride to the Whitten center in Clinton SC and have heard (not officially) that there were about 1200 bikes there. Now coming up we have many Toy Runs in the Upstate of South Carolina where we usually have several hundred bikers show up. Its awesome to see these parades of bikes rolling through our cities. I have logged over 17,000 miles on my Goldwing in 2 years as it has become my main means of transportation. Now I just need some synergy heated pants and I will be good to go for the southern winters.

Tourmaster synergy electric clothing

I commute on a Honda Goldwing each and everyday. I recently invested in a tourmaster synergy heated jacket liner. I didn't know how it would react and the first morning I rode with it on I left it on Medium with the temp outside around 40 degrees. I was sweating by the time I got to work and this was while wearing a short sleeve shirt. I am waiting on the gloves as I will need them soon. The controls come with these clothes whereas the competion makes you pay extra for the controls. I plan on eventually getting the pants also but that may have to wait a month or so. I also plan on getting the suit for my wife as she freezes with temps in the 50's with the leather and 2 or 3 jackets. I recommend to anyone the Tourmaster synergy clothing.

Goldwings and summer colds

Its been awhile since i have posted to these pages. I have had two disks in my back repaired since my last post but I am back at work now. I had laser surgery on my back which is not as invasive as the old way of doing surgery. I have been riding my Wing just about everyday since I have been back to work. I have found a new headlight bulb that works very well and really lights up the road. It is expensive but I think it is worth it for visibility and safety. The bulb is put out by Sylvania
and is actually an automotive bulb but the H3 also works on my 1997 GL1500 SE. The bulbs cost around $25.00 a piece but like I say the investment was well worth it. I ride in the early morning just after daybreak and can see the light from my headlights with sunglasses on. I wear some type of shield at all times to keep trash out of my eyes. I missed Wing Ding in Greenville due to just having surgery on my back and having to lay low for a little while. I have heard there were some nice rides up there. Wish I could have been there. Ride safe all.

Highway 441, A great ride

I left the GWRRA South Carolina State rally and rode up Highway 76 to 123 then over to Westminster SC then over to Clayton Ga where I picked up Highway 441 known in these parts as the Smokey Mountain expressway. I enjoyed many of the great mountain views along the way and followed highway 441 into Cherokee and through the heart of the smokies into Gatlinburg. If you decide to take this route, do yourself a favor and put on a jacket when you near Clingmans' dome. It can get quite cool up there even in the summer time. What I'd really like to do is take this same route to the Blue ridge parkway and ride it from just north of Cherokee NC till it ends in Virginia and then ride through the Shenandoah Valley. Clingmansdome is the second highest peak east of the Mississippi river at 6,643 feet. I have seen snow flurries in Cherokee and Gatlinburg and at the same time a snowstorm on Clingmansdome. This whole area is beautiful year round and one of my favorite destinations in the appalachian mountains.

State of South Carolina Goldwing Rally

The GWRRA state rally will be held May 1,2, AND 3RD 2008 IN Anderson South Carolina. I am also looking forward to the National Goldwing rally held in Greenville South Carolina this year during the July 4th weekend. I am hoping to be done with my back surgery by then and back to riding. My back hurts more in a car than it does on a Goldwing. Right now I am just waiting to get over a cold/ flu or whatever this is that I've got. I have also been researching to find the best heated clothing on the market. I would love to hear reviews of the different heated clothing available. Also would like to hear reviews on lights that you have put on your Goldwing. I believe that the more lights you have the better off you are due to visibility. The best way of being safe is being visible to other motorists.

Where the heck is spring?

Yeah I know its in the dead of winter and there are about 58 days left till spring but I can still hope it will get here early. It must have been at least 65 outside today. I rode home in just a short sleeve shirt which isn't always the best safety practice in the world. I do however wear a helmet which is optional here in South Carolina. It is kinda cool in the mornings when I leave for work but with my Goldwing jacket, chaps, gloves and helmet liner I stay fairly warm. I was almost sweating when I got to work this morning at a temp of 39 fahrenheit. I know of some guys I ride with that wear heated suits but my cut off for riding is 32 fahrenheit. Also I don't care much for riding in high winds either. I could ride in colder weather without being too cold but I don't like wearing a whole bunch of clothing either. During the winter months I can compete with those who put miles on a bike however but being of the working class of people, I can't put 3600 miles a month on my bike during the fall, spring and summer like some of the people I ride with do. One couple I ride with was gone most of the summer on their bike. They rode out to Washington state among others from South Carolina and was gone 12 weeks. Anyway ride on and ride safe.

Goldwings and doing nothing

Ever go through a spell when you feel tired and could care less what gets done and what doesn't? That's how I have felt for about the last week. I have felt tired and worn out. I slept to 12:00 noon on Sunday which is not at all my norm. I haven't even felt much like riding which is also out of my norm. I guess its because it has been cool and damp here lately which has also been out of the norm. I was suppose to have gone on a toy run Sunday but never made it. I wish I could get out of this muck I'm in and get out more. Would be nice if winter took a vacation this year and stay well North of South Carolina.

Nice Day for A Cold Ride

Was 28 degrees Farenheidt when I left for work this morning here in sunny South Carolina. I had no choice but ride my bike to work due to my wife letting a deer hit the side of her car last tuesday and doing about $4000.00 in damage to it to the point of the car having to be towed. I don't have heated garments because I see no need of them here in the south. I can usually ride comfortably at least 2 or 3 days a week. This morning I used some heat paks inside my gloves which kept my palms toasty warm but still did nothing for my fingertips, which was the only thing that was really cold. I did have on longjohns and chaps along with my millennium Goldwing jacket and a balclava. I was warm enough. I have been much colder before back in my younger days when I was deer hunting. I decided deer hunting wasn't for me, I just let my wife kill em now with her car. Id rather ride a motorcycle in 15 degree weather than deer hunt at 35.

What a bad week this has been.

Ever have a week where just about everything that could go wrong went wrong? I bought an OEM part (cornering lights) for my bike back in May or June and last week a bulb blew out so I went several places looking for a replacement bulb. No one has this bulb. I even tried the auto parts store to maybe replace the bulb and the holder but they won't fit inside the lens so I ended up putting the old lens and bulb back on the bike.
That was minor compared to having to fix brakes on my sons car (a Mazda Protoge). I had to replace the caliper on the rear passenger side because it had seized up and wore the rotor out. I started this project on Monday and just finished it today Oct 19th 2007. I had to order parts from O'Rielly auto parts. When the parts came I had the rotor and no caliper. The caliper came on Thursday. I had let my son drive my car and Wednesday night I got a call about 9 P.M. that my car had died. I took my wife's car to where he was and jumped it off, well as soon as he turned the lights on the car died again. I had to go to Wal-mart and get a battery at 10:30 at night and drive all the way back out to where we had left my car and put the new battery in which turned out to be too big and wouldn't allow me to close my hood all the way. I made do with what I had and we drove the car home, which was about 11:45 p.m. I still had to take a shower and get cleaned up. About 12:30 A.M. the phone rings and I stay on the phone for about 30 minutes. I have to get up at 5:30 to be at work by 7:00 a.m. I drive my car and notice that the battery, (alternator) light isn't going off. Well when I get off of work I go to O'Rielly auto parts and pick up my Caliper and ask them to check my battery and charging system only to find out that I have a bad alternator. I leave there and go to Wal-mart and exchange batteries put the new battery in car and nothing happens. Take that battery back out of car and back into Wal-mart and find that battery is dead. They put another battery on their charging system to find that it is not fully charged but I end up taking that battery and finally get my car started. I get home with my new caliper and go to put it on my son's car only to realize I don't have the mounting brackets for the pads and have left them on my old caliper. I have to go back to O'Rielly auto parts and get the mounting hardware which should just slide off, wrong, we had to beat the sucker and it still wouldn't come out like it was suppose to. We ended up having to get a hacksaw and cut the pin. I did get the brakes fixed but now have to concentrate on an alternator. Hope no one else has these kinds of problems.

Another Great day to ride In South Carolina

Even though today is Sunday, it is a great day to ride here in South Carolina. We have not had any super cold winters here in a long long time, not that we really want one either. I have been kinda lazy today and haven't done a whole lot today. I have mostly been watching NASCAR on T.V. and playing on the computer. I did however ride my big bike to church this morning. I will say that bikers help out the communities in which they live, but I don't see many bikers going to church. We all have excuses of why we didn't go to church but are they really good excuses? I see people in wheelchairs going to church but if we just get the sniffles, well thats excuse enough not to go. I say we should ride our Motorcycles to church as much as possible to help change the image of bikers. Anyway thats enough of my babbling, ride safe and ride long.

Back at work and riding now

Well after almost six months of seeing doctors and surgery I am back at work and able to ride my bike without having to worry about it. I missed riding my goldwing more than I missed work. I ride my bike most of the year. There are a few days out of just about every month that I don't ride but for the most part I ride my wing just about everywhere I go. I have went to the Doctors office on it and to the grocery store and even out to supper. I have rode just about across South Carolina and back home in a day. The winner in our GWRRA meeting last month had 6600 miles and second place had 6000 miles on a goldwing. My Posts will be more frequent now that I'm able to ride more.

Goldwing Motorcycles best in the world?

I like to think that the Goldwing is the best Motorcycle on the market today and that noone else even come close. Honda has always made quality products and since I have been riding with Harley's some of my riding friends have now bought Goldwings. Where else can you get a motorcycle with heated seats and grips from the factory. I read a story once of where a Goldwing rider took his wing to a dragstrip and almost won against a bike that was made for racing. Afterward the guy on the racing bike come over and asked "what you got in that thing?" The guy answered it was stock, I just took a few things out of my saddle bag to lighten it up!!! The story said they both had a good laugh out of it. The Goldwing has as many parts to it as a Honda Civic. I know guys who put 3000 + miles on their Goldwings in a month every month, I'm not sure you could do that on another brand of bike. Also one other thing I like about the Honda Goldwing is that Honda thinks about the safety of their riders, they are the only company that has tried to put airbags on a motorcycle. I love my honda because it is an easy bike to ride and it is smooth. I have a bad back and have been told by doctors that if I didn't have a Goldwing I could forget riding a Motorcycle. I have a GL1500 SE with reverse and I'm sure that helps me out tremendously. I have recently heard rumors that Honda will be putting a six speed transmission on the 1800 in 2008 with true overdrive. The Honda Goldwing is made in the U.S.A. in Maryville Ohio.

Good Places to Buy Motorcycle Apparel

I have bought Motorcycle apparel from 2 or 3 sources myself and I am very happy with the quality of merchandise I have recieved. I have found that most EBAY sellers who are power sellers have good quality products, especially Jafrum (nyleather). Follow this link: http://goldwing-partsandaccessories.com. Also a good source is wingstuff.com, wingworx.com and chromeworld.com. I have bought some heavy duty chaps from EBAY which I am very happy with. I have also bought Jackets and Gloves for Motorcycle riding which I am very happy with. All seem to be good quality and I saved a bundle on these products. I bought a Millenium Goldwing Jacket from EBAY for $30.00 ($120-$189 elsewhere.) I got my chaps from EBAY for about $20.00 (over $100 elsewhere) and gloves for $14.00 ($49 elsewhere.) There are lots of deals on EBAY. Although I have Motorcycle boots on my website, I don't suggest buying shoes or boots online because I have found that the sizes vary. I have 2 pairs of Harley Boots that are the same size, one pair is too small but the same size as the other pair and almost the same style. I stay warm while riding with my gear all the way to down to 32 degrees. I really haven't tried riding any colder than that because even at 32 my fingers tend to get cold before I get to where I am going.

GWRRA, A must for Goldwing Riders.

If you ride a Goldwing Motorcycle a must is to join the GWRRA to enhance your riding experience. I myself actually belong to 2 clubs. I belong to the GWRRA and to the Greenwood Motorcycle club. I don't have anyone calling me to ride from the Greenwood Motorcycle club to go for a ride but this is not the case with the GWRRA. Our chapter is going to Charleston SC this coming saturday to try and capture the plaque and bring it Back to Greenwood. It is also a time for fellowship with other GWRRA chapters. The GWRRA is like a big family of riders. I do ride some with the Greenwood Motorcycle club but that club is mostly Harley riders whose mufflers are so loud I can barely hear my radio while riding with them. The GWRRA is the worlds' biggest motorcycle club and someone is always there to help you. It's truly a great organization.

WOW What a Goldwing wrecker

All I can say about this video is WoW, what a Goldwing, while I own one myself I knew they could pull a small trailer and knew of other accessories for goldwings, but I never knew it could do this. I have been sitting here the last few days looking at different websites, and have found there are some great ones out there. I have also thought about ways of making money on the internet and have come up with some ideas for websites. I am thinking of putting together a website for Motorcyclists to review parts and accessories and a forum or chat to talk about things you want to do with your bike along with tips on how to do it. Would also love to have videos on there also. Remember when youre out there riding, STUPID HURTS!! watch video.

Gwrra membership and Benefits

I am proud to be a member of the GWRRA. Although I am a relatively new member, I have met some great people and learn more about the benefits and functions of the Gwrra. If you would like more information on Gwrra go here: www.gwrra.org/membership.html. I think you will find that this site has a wealth of information. I am pleased to see that the Wing Ding '08' will be in my neck of the woods and look forward to meeting new people when they appear in Greenville SC next year. I hope to be back to 100% by then. If you belong to HOG you must own a Harley Davidson. GWRRA is an organization 30 years old now and not just for Goldwing and Valkyrie riders but for all Motorcycle enthusiasts. They are an advocate for safety. They suggest you get properly licsenced to ride a motorcycle because they know it drops your percentage dramatically from being in an accident. They have a great base of people throughout the world, not just for the United States. Did you know that the Goldwing is made here in the United States? If you like to ride a motorcycle give the Goldwing a look. I think that you will be happy you did unless you just like the noise and vibration of a Harley. This maybe my last blog for 3-4 weeks due to surgery on monday. Hope that all had a Great Time in Billings at the wing ding, wish I could've been there. read on.........

My Goldwing

I like to ride every chance i get. Friday Night wife and I went for a ride with a group to eat supper. We rode about 40 miles to eat then back home. We ate at a country cookin resturant called Mama Penns in Anderson SC. They have great food. I enjoy going out with others bikers for supper, the only problem was that the rest were Harleys and mine the only Goldwing. Saturday I ended up riding to Augusta Ga to the Harley Davidson shop there. Even though I ride a Goldwing, I get lots of compliments on how good my bike looks. We also stopped at a Honda shop in Augusta but was disappointed there, no Goldwings in the place. I personally like the quietness of the Goldwing and wouldnt ride anything else. I always wear my helmet unlike most of the other bikers I see on the rode. I am guilty of not wearing armoured clothing which I would wear if I had the funds. They make clothing now that is suppose to be comfortable in all seasons. It is suppose to protect your back, knees, shoulders, and elbows....read on

http://printnpost.com/

Nice Ride

I rode up to the mountains yesterday on my wing. Was a nice day for a ride in the mountains, was too hot to ride elsewhere. I didnt ride too far up into the mountains just enough to put a little over 200 miles on my bike before the day was said and done. I rode to Ceasars head then to Laurens SC where I ate supper at Gooney Birds, then back to Greenwood. I couldnt believe how many boats were on the water at 8:30 at in the evening when I came across lake Greenwood. Anyway had a great time but by the time I got home my butt was sore from the riding. I still love those long rides though. I guess most Goldwingers are heading to Billings Mt. for the wing ding. I know I have friends who are riding up for that. Hope everyone has a fun and safe trip. I stopped by one of those roadside stands that sells tomatoes and peaches and cantaloupe and watermelon. I was on my bike and I bought a cantaloupe, tomatoes and a watermelon. Well the watermelon wouldnt fit in my sidebags or in my trunk cause thats where the cantaloupe and tomatos were. So I put the watermelon on my back seat and rode home with it that way, without strapping it down!!! Lets see you do that on a bike other than a Goldwing. That may not have been the smartest or safest thing to do but I do bet it got lots of strange looks. Its not everyday you see a motorcycle riding a watermelon!!! I can put about 400 miles a day on it and not be wore out. I could probably do more than that but have never tried more than 400 as most of the time Im riding with Harley riders. I love the comfrt and quietness of the Goldwing. I also like the looks of the Goldwing. I have been told that the BMW is as comfortable as the Goldwing but I do not like the looks of them. Personally I think that they are ugly. Ive never seen a pretty woman on the back of a BMW, but have seen beautiful women on most other brands of bikes. I also like the trikes of the Goldwing an Harleys. They both make a great trike. I wish I could be in Billings Mt. on the 4th for the wind-ding but I cant make it this year due to lack of funds!!! I see a lot of stuff I would like to have but can't afford!!! The best deals I have found are from wingstuff.com,goldwingcountry.com and ebay. I also get a monthly magazine from chromeworld.com and they have stuff that others dont. Most of my stuff comes from wingstuff though. I also get a monthly magazine from Jammin leather for my motorcycle clothes, of course they are not goldwing stuff but are great for other motorcycles. Of course items with the goldwing logo cost a little more than items without the goldwing logo. I have yet to find a good place to get short sleve t-shirts with the goldwing logo. I do suggest to all to get an armored jacket to ride in all weather coditions. I have seen good reviews on the air-tek jackets even in hot weather and it does get hot in South Carolina in the summertime. We have very little cold weather here and when we do it usually only lasts a few days at a time. January is usually our coldest month and I have seen 70 degree days in january. I know of one couple who plan to visit every state west of the Mississippi river on their way to and from Billings. I think they have already visited every state east of the Mississipi all on a Goldwing. They will probably wear out a good set of tires before heading back to South Carolina. I have heard that Yellowstone is a Great place to ride a motorcycle, you just have to watch out for Buffalo crossing the road. I think it would be neat to see the wildlife of Yellowstone from a Motorcycle. I have never seen a Buffalo other than on TV. I would love to go out west and visit the Grand Canyon and the rockies, the highest mountains around here are only about a mile high. If you are a Goldwing rider, I would suggest you join the GWRRA, they offer a lot of benefits for Goldwing riders all over the world. There are chapters of the GWRRA all accross the United States and abroad. They offer alot more than most motorcycle clubs. It is getting very hot here so I always like to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are parts of the parkway that have never seen Temperatures above 82 degrees farenheit. Everytime I have ever been to Mt. Mitchell I have needed a jacket. The Parkway offers some beautiful scenery, it starts just north of Cherokee NC and ends somewhere in Virginia. It actually starts in The Great Smokey Mountains and goes through the Blue ridge Mountains. There are lots of places to stop and rest along the way as they have many scenic overlooks. There are also many places for picnics. There are lots of towns near the parkway that are worth checking out also, you have Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge Tennessee, Maggie Valley NC, Cherokee NC, The Biltmore House near Asheville NC, Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock, Boone NC and thats just to name a few. I would like to have about a week to tour this area myself, most of my trips have been day trips as I only live about 2 hours from Asheville NC. Oh and theres lots of curves for those of you who like them too. You may want to try Deals Gap in North Carolina. I have added some lights to my goldwing but would like to add more. I would like to add lights to my saddle bags and some rings of fire. I would also like to find some new rims for my bike. I have worked on mine but cannot get them to shine like I want. I like my bike to shine like new money. I try to keep my bike clean and polish it just about everytime I wash it. I buy my polish from WINGSTUFF.com. They have great products for polishing your bike and about anything else you want to do with it. I personally think that a goldwing is the best bike on the market today and have been told by several people who have both a Harley Davidson and a Goldwing that the wing is the most comfortable touring bike of the 2. I've also been told that it is even more comfortable than a BMW. Personally I also think that the Goldwing is the best looking bike of any touring bike out there. There is so much you can do with a Goldwing and so little you can do with other bike because of the amps from the battery. The Goldwing is truly in a class of its own. read on.

chores and wings

Havent been online much lately. Have had lots of chores to do lately. I have done some riding, my bike has become my main means of transportation. Right now I have akll the seat torn out of my explorer to clean the carpet. I bought some great stuff the other day for cleaning chrome and aluminum wheels, its called MOTHERS chrome polish. It does a great job on aluminum wheels and stainless steel along with chrome and can be used on most metals. It is a soft paste and requires no hard rubbing. It provides a mirror like shine to boot. It is a great product. Try it on all of your chrome and other polishable metals. Anyway it is dry here and we need rain bad. I have been enjoying riding my wing though. I am trying to start an online buisness but do not understand how to go about doing some things with it. I know people personally that have done great at this online buisness thing. That has nothing to do with Goldwings does it? Back to Goldwings....... I get alot of compliments on my bike, most people tell me that they would ride a goldwing before they would any other bike on the market. There are those however that are diehard harley fans, I guess I am a diehard Goldwing fan, but I like all bikes and it shouldnt be about the brand of Bike you ride it should be about riding and being in the brother and sisterhood of biking. I just ordered a couple of things for my Goldwing. I ordered some lights to be mounted under my headlights to make me a little more visible during the daytime and Im also changing my cornering lights so they will burn all the time to make me more visible. I also ordered a signal changer for motorcycles, we'll see wheather these work or not. Some other things you can do to make yourself more visible is to never ride in a vehicles blind spot, add a headlight modulator, and paint you bike yellow, just kidding on the last one although yellow bikes are highly visible. read more........

A Goldwing ride

What a great day to ride!!! We left Greenwood Sc. this morning and rode to Charleston SC and had lunch then rode back to Greenwood. It was a great ride. It did get hot today across South Carolina and even hotter with my jacket on. I need to find a cooler jacket than the one I had on today. We run 75 and 80 all the way back trying to dodge storms but we managed to do so until we got almost home, (the last quarter mile). This is motorcycle awareness month. It is a time to make motorists aware that there are motorcycles out there and to raise awareness for motorcycles the dangers of riding. Always think about whats going on around you and look for escape routes of when someone pulls out in front of you. I like riding a Goldwing and other big bikes because motorists seem to respect them more. I like the Goldwing best because it is a lot more comfortable than any other bike I have ever rode. I like riding mostly because in the biker world people seem to be more friendly in that world, its like being part of a brotherhood and sisterhood. read on.......

why a goldwing cont.

I leave for work sometimes at 4:30 am. With other motorcycles I dont think my neighbors would appreciate being woken up to the sound of a Harley or other loud Motorcycles whereas on a goldwing I can sneak out without being heard. I have lots of storage on my goldwing and can pull a trailer if I need to even on long trips. I ride a gl1500 SE. I have a backrest on my bike along with passenger armrests. I have been told that the passenger seat is the most comfortable of all bikes including the Ultra Classic made by Harley Davidson. I am going to put more lights on my bike to make it more visible. I have seen people actually get out of the way of bikes with lots of lights. The goldwing is a very well balanced machine and has been nominated Bike of the year in Touring class for several years running including 2007. I get lots of comments on how nice my bike looks for the model, (its a 1997) and still looks new. While I dont have the time to put lots of miles on it, only a little over 20,000, It gets me from point a to point b without failure. The Vstar is a nice bike but it didnt have the storage or windshield that I needed for my purpose of Riding. I bought a motorcycle to save on gas. I was spending $40.00 a week in gas and with the motorcycle and payment it was about $20.00 a week so it cut my expeses in half, but on cool mornings it was a hassle to store my chaps and leather jacket along with my helmet at work as I had no place at work to store my gear. I went to the dealer about a year ago to look for a windsheild for my vstar and they had just traded for a goldwing so I bought the wing. It wouldve cost much more to put saddlebags and a windshield and other gadgets that I have on my wing, and had I known what I know now, I probably wouldve bought the Goldwing to start with. I beleive in lots of lights on a motorcycle for visibility purposes. I also believe in chaps and other armored gear, I always wear my helmet and wouldn't advise not wearing one until drivers of automobiles get to where they can see and respect motorcycles. read on...

goldwings and beautiful weather

It has been nice here in South carolina lately. I have been invited to go to the South Carolina Goldwing rally this weekend but dont think Im going to be able to go due to other engagements. I didnt hurt as much on my Goldwing as I do while riding in a car. Anyway we had a nice ride other than a few tailgaters. In case youre wondering it was about 320 miles round trip. I hope to do some riding up towards the mountains this summer. Cant let a lot of people see me, however I have found that my back hurts worse in a car than on a Motorcycle because in a car I am leaned over and not balancing my back like I am on a bike. Also chromeworld has a good selection of motorcycle apparel, just not online, you have to get their catalog. JC whitney as well as I can remeber, only has motorcycle parts and no apparel. One of the best choices is a mesh type armored Jacket. I would love to have one of those myself. I have bought stuff from ebay but you have to be careful whoo you buy from. The only problem with riding right now is pollen!!! The pollen is so thick right now that you can see it in your headlights in the mornings and evenings. I rode the Goldwing again this morning and my eyes were dry by the time I got to work. I would wear my face shield if I could see through the pollen!!. I have also noticed that the South Carolina Highway Patrol has brought out their motorcycles. I have also noticed that people in cars do not respect motorcycles, they continue to pull out in front of them. I saw a guy do one thing wrong yesterday, although he was able to avoid an accident, he did not have his bright lights on during the daytime on his bike. Having your Brights on during the daytime makes it alot easier for people to see you. Noone is going to complain about you doing this, it makes you more visible.

More on Motorcycle safety

well it was a beautiful day here again with highs pushing 80. Do me a favor all riders and be safe while riding, we had 2 deaths in the upstate yesterday from motorcycle accidents. In Both cases looks like a car was making a left hand turn in front of the Motorcycle. Look for other avenues other than hitting the car or truck, its a battle you cannot win with a car or truck. I am saddened by any deaths involving a motorcycle. Learn to use both brakes simultaneously, it help you to come to a stop much faster. Your front brakes account for 70% of your braking power while your rear brakes only account for 30% so why not use both? It will help you stop smoother and quicker. I wish the best for everyone. On a lighter note, two more of our motrcycle club members have wisened up, one rode a Harley the other a BMW, now both have bought Goldwings!!!!

More Motorcycle safety

Another Great day for riding a motorcycle here in South Carolina. The weather has been very nice here. Knowledge of what can happen on the road between a car and Motorcycle goes a long way toward your safety. Always be aware of your surroundings while riding your motorcycle and always Dress for riding. I have seen people out riding with shorts and flip flops on, what would happen to their legs if they hit the pavement? I always wear like a hiking style boot when I ride. It protects my ankles.. I always wear long pants and never shorts, it helps protect my legs. I do however break some safety rules of riding like a short sleve shirt and no gloves on warm days. However I learned my lesson of riding in the rain without gloves. Try this for about 40 miles in pouring rain and you'll see why you should wear gloves while riding in the rain. A lot of guys I know will not ride in the rain but my instructor says it make you a better rider.. The day I took my test for my license, it was pouring rain, and I took the test on a Goldwing. When you take your test, do it on a bike that you are used to, not someone elses bike that may be smaller because chances are you wont do as well on it. read on...

More Motorcycle stuff

Well what a beautiful day here in South Carolina today. There are lots of bikes on the road these days. I hope that everyone will ride safe, one motorcycle death is one too many. Learn what you can and cant do with your bike. The best way to do this is in an empty parking lot.. Practice leaning into turns, you can lean a motorcycle far down without dropping it. Most of the time the most you are going to do is scrape the floorboards. When you start into a turn start wide and go inside of the turnfinishing to the outside if you must. Always turn your head to where you want to go, but dont look down at the ground, look at the ground and guess where you are going? Always follow the next guy at least 2 seconds back, but always look at least 12 seconds ahead. Give yourself plenty of time to SEE. Not only is it not a lot of fun to ride a motorcycle when you are tired, it is also dangerous. You're not concentrating to your full capacity when you are tired. Also something I saw not too long ago was also dangerous, talking on a cell phone while riding a motorcycle and this cat was all over the road. I think that would be about as bad as drinking several beers and getting on a bike. We have a couple of rides coming up here in Greenwood SC. One will be on April 1, 2007 from the Greenwood civic center. We meet there and ride to Clinton SC for THE WHITTEN CENTER. We leave the Civic center at 12:30 pm for this one. The second is coming up on April 21, 2007. It is to benefit St Jude Childrens Hospital. It leaves the Greenwood Mall at 8 am. This is a Poker run. Cost is $10.00. Ride is 131miles. Also on the 21st is a party on the square. I think it starts around 6 pm. Will be back with more safety tips tomorrow. read on.......

Motorcycle safety cont

When you ride a motorcycle learn to SEE. You always have to concentrate on what you are doing while riding a motorcycle. Never ride in another vehicles blind spot. Most Motorcycle accidents happen at intersections when a vehicle makes a left hand turn in front of the motorcycle. When you are riding always look ahead about 12 seconds. Always play a game of what if.... What if that car turns in front of me, what if that deer comes across the road.....you get the picture. What scares me the most on the road is the ones with the cell phones in their hand and not paying attention to whats going on around them. read more.......

so you want to ride a Motorcycle

Safety should be on everyones mind when riding a Motorcycle. There is so much that can go wrong while riding. I always ride with my bright lights on in the daytime for higher visibility. I've seen some bikes with modulating headlights which is a great choice for higher visibility. The first thing that a driver usually says after theyve pulled out in front of a motorcycle is, "gee officer I didn't see him." Another problem we run into is animals. Never kick at a dog who is running after you. You can do some things to make him misjudge your distance such as slow down or speed up and or both. Always wear protective gear. Sure its nice to be comfortable and they do make armored mesh clothing to keep you cool on even the hottest days and protected at the same time. I usually wear a full face helmet, you never know which part of your head may hit something but the best way is to avoid an accident. Rode the wing to work again today. I still think they are going to have to add more spaces for bikes at work. More and more people are riding their motorcycles to work. Seems like everywhere you look these days you can see a motorcycle on the rodes. I love the freedom of riding a motorcycle myself. It helps you unwind after a long day at work. I have a motorcycle meeting tommorrow so I doubt I will be able to write. Will be back with you all on Friday.

another great day

I was able to ride my wing to work again this morning as it was a very nice day here in South Carolina. I think we need a bigger bike parking lot at work, mustve been 10 to 12 bikes at the plant today. Mine was the only wing, but there were a couple of Yamaha's, a Honda shadow and the rest H arley's. I ride with a group of older riders when not at work, the oldest being 82 years young. He rode his Harley to billings Montana from Greenwood SC last July for the national Hog rally. His bike may have a sidecar, but at 82 and can still ride is great. If I make 82, I hope i can still make it to the garage to just look at mine much less ride!!! I think the youngest that went on the Billings trip last year was about 50. Over 8000 miles and 28 states in 2 weeks!!!!! And they were able to do some sightseeing too. I think the Goldwings have a cruise coming up for the 30th anniversary where you can take your motorcycle on the ship with you and you will be able to ride it in Puerto Rica and the Virgin Islands. I think it leaves from Miami on Feburary 10, 2008. I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT ONE!!!

Buisness and Motorcycles

Another nice day here in South Carolina, in the low 70s. Rode my wing to work again this morning. Was a nice ride, Still have to wear my gloves and Leather jackets and chaps in the morning time, but by the time I get off it is nice outside. I am looking for ways now to just get on my bike and ride to the store, or to Brewsters for some ice cream. I bought my wife some chaps the other day so maybe she will be going with me more. They are nice chaps too, from biker dream apparel. My Jacket is also from Bikers Dream apparel. I buy a lot of stuff from e-bay too. Great deals on ebay for leather. I also buy a good bit from Wingstuff and Goldwing country. I do alot of internet surfing on Goldwings and lately have been spending a lot of time on gwrra's website. The way gas prices are going, we all need to ride motorcycles!!!!!

A motorcycle day

Today was a great day to ride a motorcycle. If you are consdering buying on consider taking a rider safety course. Also you will need proper apparel while riding. Leather is a good choice. Road rash is not a good thing to have. Heavy denim is also a good choice. Make sure to always have that extra skin while riding. You never know when you may need it, its kind of like a seatbelt. Always wear a helmet, riding without a helmet may look and feel cool but it does offer some protection in case of a crash. Safety Knowledge FUN. I think thats a good slogan for not only Goldwings but for all bikers. There have already been 6 or 7 deaths in Daytona for bike week. I would like to make cars aware of us bikers too. Motoercycles are fun to ride nevertheless just ride safe and have fun out there!!!!

Big Motorcycles

Hi, Im a Goldwing rider from South Carolina. I probably get to ride my bike at least 2 weeks out of each of the 12 months here. I usually ride my bike back and forth to work to save gas and money. I was lucky enough to find a 97 Goldwing with only 15,000 miles on it a year ago. Before that I was riding a Yamaha V star classic. I love riding the Goldwing better than I did the V star, but both are nice bikes.
